Hi,
Free pistol would apparently be difficult and require a fair level and pistol experience before starting. But what would that level be?
So far I have been shooting 10m air for 3 years (average score 535-545, competition 5-10 points less) and a year of 25m LR, although the later with a borrowed club pistol. Thinking of buying my own 25m, I'm also wondering if it would be a good opportunity to start 50m, as I like precision shooting, the club doesn't have one, and many are less expensive than 25m on the used market.
What would you advise? Should I improve a bit before going that way?

None! Just go out to the range an enjoy the humility bath :) If you like precission air pistol you will probably love free pistol. There are a lot of great and cheap free pistols in the French market. You are lucky!

humility bath
That's gonna be at best
Ridicule doesn't kill, as they say. I expect a lot of fun anyway, just will show up at the range at 7 am so no one sees my disaster

Just be careful with the trigger and don't shoot your foot :) Try to dry fire a couple times, it may be scary. And above all, enjoy it! Shooting outside at 50m is super special.

Oh, I tried one already. It was just terrific. The trigger was set around 30g, what a change! Excellent exercise indeed to check your perfect security habits.
What do you think about direct trigger vs. two-stage (or whatever it is called, you get it)?

I've never tried a two stage trigger for free pistol, but with such a light trigger I don't see the interest
