Hello there,
This happens when the sensors' firmware isn't updated for a really long time (at least a couple of years).
Your firmware version is on 19, while it should be around 36-37
Since the difference in versions is too big, SCATT Expert can't force an update on its own - we'll have to use a standalone app
Please, close all windows and programs (expert and pro in particular)
Then download and boot
this app
a blank window will appear, looking like this
View attachment 1830
Connect the sensor (some text will show up in the window) and hit the 'Update' button in your bottom left, as it becomes active
Wait for the update to finish
I highly recommend booting SCATT Expert (after you close the updater app) and checking your diagnostics tab.
In cases when the firmware hasn't been updated for quite a while, a user would usually find a mini-update (like from version 35 to 37/37) available in Expert. Run the firmware update once again if that's the case. After that you should be all set and ready for practice
Peter, thank you for your help! Though not directly usable, your advice has given me the idea of where the problem is.
Let me elaborate. I've downloaded the updater with your link, executed it, plugged in my device and nothing happened, the only text in the SCATT firmware updater was still "Plug in device to update". I've tried different combinations - i.e. plug in then launch, and vice versa, but nothing worked. The updater window just kept the exact state depicted on your screenshot.
Then I've made a suggestion: maybe my driver (scatt-driver-winusb-setup-11.exe, there is no clear indication of version, I guess that can be called "driver v11") is just too new for this tool. So I've used the famous
https://web.archive.org/ engine to try and find the older driver versions on SCATT website (I was able to "travel" to 2018's links), and I've got that:
https://www.scatt.com/downloads/scatt-driver-winusb-setup-10.exe (driver v10)
https://www.scatt.com/downloads/scattfwupd_2018-06-14.exe (SCATT firmware updater of even older version than you've suggested, from 2018)
With this combination of driver and firmware updater I was able to successfully bump my firmware to 35 from 19.
Then I've removed all this old stuff, installed the newest versions of driver (v11) and SCATT Expert software - and voila, after that I've bumped the firmware a second time, as SCATT Expert was able to update it from 35 to the latest 37.
So after all that journey I am able to use my device with the latest Expert / Professional.
Well, if you don't mind, I'd take a little liberty to leave some feedback on SCATT software and website:
1. The message I've received first from SCATT Expert (as depicted in the first post) is
very misleading, I'd better suggest to use something like "this program have no updates available for your device" which is far closer to the truth.
2. As per the
https://www.scatt.com/downloads/ page, SCATT firmware updater is not compatible with MX-02 at all - is that true for the present time?
3. There is no firmware/driver/software archive available on the website, so I was just lucky enough to find the old (and still functioning!) link there, on Web Archive:
https://web.archive.org/web/20180904060920/https://www.scatt.com/scatt-mx-02
Maybe that would be helpful for customers like me to have some "cumulative updater" available, or just show that older version links on the main website, as these are still functioning anyway?
4. The user manual does not contain any instructions on all that firmware quirks at all.
Thank you a lot for pointing me to the right direction, Peter, now my MX-02 is working properly and fully updated!
